BU Head Chef wins live ‘Cook off’
Congratulations to Tim Garlinge, Head Chef at BU’s Executive Business Centre, who has won a Silver Medal for a live 'Cook-Off' competition at the Hotel & Catering Show, held recently at the Bournemouth International Centre. His category was for ‘Gourmet Breakfast, incorporating Seafood’.
BU shortlisted for two THE Leadership and Management Awards
BU has received sector recognition for the strength of its finance and student recruitment operations with nominations in the national Times Higher Education (THE) Leadership and Management Awards 2010.
Student email distribution group issues
Please be advised that there is currently an issue with email delivery to some of the student email distribution groups. The problem occurs when an email is sent to a group or multiple of groups that contain more than 100 email addresses due to a configuration parameter with Outlook Live, therefore until the problem is resolved we recommend that you send emails to individual groups.

New Research & Enterprise ‘Lunch Bytes’ Series
The Centre for Research & Enterprise (CRE) has an exciting programme of Lunch Bytes for BU staff. Starting in April, the new structure comprises of two research focused and two enterprise focused sessions every month; with sessions repeated on both campuses allowing you more flexibility to attend.

BU is hosting a meeting of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport which will discuss the expansion of Bournemouth International Airport.
Futsal tournament - Wednesday 31 March
sportBU are hosting a Futsal tournament on 31 March from 10-5pm in the sportBU Sports Hall. Get your mates together and put in a team, come and have a laugh before the end of term.

Eastenders role for BU graduate
As the infamous ‘doof-doofs’ signal the end of each episode of ‘Eastenders’ this week, keep a close eye on the closing credits and stay alert for the name of a BU graduate.
Old analogue (MD110) phone system shutdown -Tuesday 16 March
Please be advised that the old analogue (MD110) phone system is being shut down tomorrow, Tuesday 16 March. All users should now have migrated to the new IP telephone system, therefore we do not expect any issues. If you do experience problems, please contact the IT Service Desk on ext 65515.
sportBU Easter Sports Camps
sportBU is proud to return with sports camps for children aged 8 to 14. Running over the Easter period, the camps are for all abilities and are hosted within the University's array of facilities.
BU Music Department's Spring concert
Join the University Orchestra, Vocalise and Chamber Choir in the Student Hall, Talbot House on Sunday 28 March at 7pm for BU Music Department's Spring concert.

Santander Universities Harvard Law School workshop

Assessment and Exam Boards for Secretaries – refresher for experienced staff
This workshop will focus on the new Circumstances Boards and will offer an opportunity for experienced Exam Board Secretaries to discuss the regulations and emerging issues as well as sharing best practice and experiences. Attendees of this workshop are expected to have a sound knowledge of BU Exam Board practices.
Vice-Chancellor to lead City University London
Professor Paul Curran has been appointed as the next Vice-Chancellor of City University London. He will take up his appointment in August 2010.
Brown University scholarships for academics - 2010
Following the success of the 2009 BIARI program, Santander Universities is once again supporting this bespoke program being hosted at Brown University.

BU staff are warmly invited to attend a forthcoming guest lecture to be delivered by Sir John Bourn, former Comptroller and Auditor General for UK, and Stella Fearnley, BU’s Professor in Accounting.

New Service – Free PC information screens in The Sir Michael Cobham Library
We are pleased to announce the launch of a new service we have developed to display how many free computers are available in The Sir Michael Cobham Library. (Computers in the myPC booking system are not included). The system checks every two minutes to provide up-to-date information.

Please return old analogue phones for recycling
As part of the project to replace old analogue 'phones with new Cisco IPT 'phones, it is important that all remaining old analogue ‘phones are returned for recycling as soon as possible. We would like to request that all staff return any remaining old phones from desks, offices, meeting rooms, and labs to your department administrator, who will then arrange with estates for their collection.

Final report from 'Post Newton Report' working groups
The joint final Report from the three ‘Post Newton Report’ groups is now available to all staff. The Report makes recommendations which will be considered in February by School Academic Boards and Senate before final decisions are taken.
